Your QR code

Fill in the form and your QR code appears here.

Bigger prints sharper. 1000 px is good for print.

Free, no account, no watermark. What you type never leaves this page. Scan it with your phone before you print a batch.

Why a Wi-Fi QR code is static

Joining a network needs the details inside the code. A dynamic code holds a link, so it is the right tool for a different job next to it.

How to make a Wi-Fi QR code

    1. Enter your network

Type the network name exactly as it appears on phones, then the password. Pick the security type your router uses, or No password for an open network.

    2. Check the options

Tick Hidden network if your router does not broadcast its name. You can also add colors or your logo, but keep strong contrast between the code and its background.

    3. Download and test

Download a PNG for print or an SVG for design work, then scan it with a phone that is not yet on the network and make sure it connects before you print.

    How guests connect

On an iPhone with iOS 11 or later and on Android 10 or later, the normal camera app reads the code and offers to join the network, so guests need no extra app. On older Android phones a scanner app is needed. The phone shows the network name before it connects, so people can see what they are joining.

    WPA, WEP and hidden networks

Choose WPA for almost every modern router, including those labeled WPA2 or WPA3. WEP is old and weak, and you should only pick it if your equipment cannot do better. Choose No password for an open network, and tick Hidden network if the router does not announce its name, so the phone knows to look for it.

    Is it safe to share?

Anyone who scans the code joins your network, exactly as if you had told them the password. For guests, put the code on a separate guest network, so visitors never reach your computers, printers or cameras. If the code ends up where it should not, change the password and make a new code.

    Where to put the code

A framed print at the reception or on the fridge works well, as do table cards in a cafe or a card in a rental. Print it at least 2 cm (0.8 in) wide, on a plain light background, and add a short line such as Scan to join our Wi-Fi so people know what it is.

    Do Wi-Fi QR codes expire?

No. The network name and password are written inside the code itself, so it keeps working as long as your network keeps the same name and password. Nothing depends on URLHop. If you change the router password later, the printed code stops connecting and you make a new one.

    Wi-Fi QR code: questions

Is this Wi-Fi QR code generator really free?

Yes. You can make and download a Wi-Fi QR code for free, with no account, no e-mail and no watermark. PNG and SVG are both included, and you can make as many codes as you need.

Is my Wi-Fi password sent anywhere?

No. The code is built in your browser, so the network name and password never reach our servers. They are not saved either. Close the tab and nothing is kept, so remember to keep the password somewhere safe yourself.

Does it work with iPhone and Android?

Yes. The camera app on iOS 11 or later and on Android 10 or later reads Wi-Fi codes and offers to connect. On older Android phones, use a QR scanner app. Test the printed code with one phone of each kind.

What do I do when I change the Wi-Fi password?

Make a new code with the new password and replace the printed one. A Wi-Fi code holds the details inside itself, so it cannot be edited later. Keep the file so you can swap it quickly.

Can I make a dynamic Wi-Fi QR code?

No, and you do not need one. Joining a network needs the details inside the code, while a dynamic code only holds a link to a web page. A dynamic code is useful next to it, for a welcome page or house rules you can edit.

Need a welcome page guests can update?

A Wi-Fi code cannot be edited, but a dynamic QR code can open a page with house rules, a menu or check-in tips that you change any time. It is free to start.
