A/B test with one link, even on a printed QR code
Which page sells more: the one with a video or the one with photos? The discount or the free shipping? Use one link or QR code and let URLHop split visits between versions in the proportion you choose. Then compare the numbers instead of guessing.
Decide with numbers, not hunches
Every campaign comes with a question: which offer, which page, which form. Too often the answer comes down to taste, or to whoever talks loudest in the meeting. With URLHop's A/B test, your versions get real visits at the same time, from the same ad, poster or QR code. You pick the winner based on what people actually did.
How the split works
You add 2 to 5 versions, called variants, each with its own address and a weight. With weights of 50 and 50, half the visits go to each version; with 70 and 30, seven in ten go to the first. Each visit is drawn on the spot, with no cookie, so the same person may see a different version if they come back another day. Your link analytics show how many visits each variant received. To see which one sold more, add a different UTM tag to each version and follow it in Google Analytics or your store.
Real-world examples
The printed piece stays the same. What changes is the page people see after they scan.
Who uses it, and what happens
- A clothing store with a flyer in the window: the QR code sends half the people to a 10% off page and the other half to a free shipping page. Two weeks later, the store sees which offer brought more orders and keeps it, without reprinting the flyer.
- An online course creator splits their bio link 50/50 between a sales page with a video and a text-only one. With a UTM tag on each, the sales report shows which one converts better.
- A burger joint with QR codes on the tables sends half the customers to order via WhatsApp and the other half to the online menu. Counting the orders from each channel shows which one works better for them.
- A real estate developer with a billboard uses one QR code to split visits between a video tour page and a floor plan page with a contact form. The sales team compares how many leads each one brings in.
- A company with a redesigned website sends 20% of visits to the new page and 80% to the old one instead of switching overnight. If all goes well, it raises the new page's weight step by step, without changing the link it already shared.
- An event organizer tests a short sign-up form against a long one to see where fewer people drop off.
How to set it up on URLHop
It even works on a link or QR code you've already shared.
Step by step
- Prepare the versions you want to compare, each at its own address. Include your current page as one of them.
- On URLHop, create a short link or open one you already use, then click the Redirect rules button.
- Under A/B test, add 2 to 5 variants, each with an address and a weight from 1 to 100, like 50/50 or 70/30.
- Save and share the link or QR code. To measure sales or sign-ups, use a different UTM tag on each version.
- Follow each variant's visits in the link's analytics. Once you pick a winner, remove the test and keep only that page as the destination: the link and QR code stay the same.
Which plan includes it
A/B tests are part of the Business plan, along with country redirects, device redirects, up to 10 team members and all-time analytics history. They aren't included in the 30-day free trial, which unlocks the Pro plan. If you ever leave Business, the link keeps working and sends everyone to the main destination, and your variants are saved for when you come back.
