How to make a QR code

    1. Pick what it holds

Choose Link, Wi-Fi, Contact card, Event or another tab and fill in the fields. The QR code updates as you type.

    2. Make it yours

Change the colors, fade into a second color, add your logo and pick the shape of the dots and corners.

    3. Download it

Pick a size up to 2000 px and download a PNG for print or an SVG for design work. Scan it with your phone before you print.

    Static or dynamic QR code?

The QR code you make here is static: it stores your content itself, so it works forever and needs no account. The price of that is that it can never be changed or counted. A dynamic QR code stores a short link instead, so you can change the destination after printing and see how many people scanned it. For a link, switch on "Editable + scan stats" above and make it dynamic with a free URLHop account.

Tips for a QR code that scans

Keep strong contrast between the code and its background, dark on light works best. Leave the empty border around the code. Do not print it smaller than about 2 cm (0.8 in) on a side. Keep a logo small, and always test the printed code with a phone before you print a batch.

    Free QR code generator: questions

Is this QR code generator really free?

Yes. Making and downloading a QR code is free, with no account, no e-mail and no watermark. PNG is full resolution and SVG is included.

    Does the QR code expire?

No. A static QR code holds your content itself and does not depend on URLHop or any other service, so it keeps working as long as the link or information inside it does.

Do you see or store what I type?

No. The QR code is built in your browser. Your link, Wi-Fi password, contact details, Pix key and logo are never sent to our servers. With your consent to analytics we only measure which type of code is made and downloaded, never what is inside it.

    Can I add my logo?

Yes. Choose a PNG, JPG, WebP or GIF image and it is placed in the middle. The code switches to the highest error correction so it still scans. Keep the logo simple and test it with a phone.

What is the difference between PNG and SVG?

PNG is a picture, good for print and for sharing on screens. SVG is a vector file that stays sharp at any size, good for designers and large prints.

Can I change the link after I print the QR code?

Not in a static code. If you may need to change it, make it dynamic: a free URLHop account gives you a short link that you can point somewhere new at any time, and shows how many people scanned it.

    Which size should I download?

1000 px works for most prints. Go bigger for posters and banners. SVG is best when you are not sure.

    Need to change it later?

A static QR code is locked to what you typed. A dynamic one lets you change the link after printing and shows your scans. It is free to start.
